Instagram influencers are all the rage now. Almost everyone wants to be one or already is one. Isn’t that why you’re here? To learn all about it?
Being an influencer has its ups and downs. It’s certainly not the easiest thing so if you’re thinking you can make some quick cash or get free products, think again. There’s a lot of hard work and effort that goes into it. Don’t get me wrong, some people can have easy success but most of the time, it’s very troubling to get somewhere. For one thing, you’ll have a lot of competition. Through my years of being an Instagram Influencer, I’ve learned a lot of do’s and don’ts when it comes to being an influencer. Here are some inportant steps to take into consideration.
1. Have a dependable niche
What is a niche? A niche is a focus or subject of what your blog
(or Instagram) will be about. For example, my niche is fashion. It’s
important to pick a niche that you can stick with. Something you’re passionate about or know that you will not get tired of posting about.
In that way, you won’t have to change your niche and you won’t loose
your follower’s interest. It’s okay to change your niche, or add to it, when
you are starting out. But when you have a solid amount of followers,
more than 10K, I wouldn’t advise it.
It is okay to have more than one niche, but I wouldn’t advise to have
more than three. If you do have more than one niche, it’s important to
have them relate to each other or be in the same category. For example,
I started out with fashion but I’m currently branching out into lifestyle.
Fashion & Lifestyle is one of the popular niches because they go hand in hand. Other examples of good compatible niches are; fashion & beauty, sewing & knitting, health & lifestyle, art & calligraphy, and etc.
2. Pick your social media channels
Since you’re here, I’m assuming you want to be an Instagram Influencer.
It’s important to think about what other social media channels you’d
want to have as well. There is no limit on the number of social media you have but it’s important to have other channels that can help you
grow your Instagram. For exmaple, pinterest, tumblr, twitter, youtube,
and facebook are the common socials bloggers use that can help
increase their social presence.
3. Creating your Instagram handle
Picking your Instagram name is also important. You’d want something
catchy, easy to remember and of course professional. Now you don’t
want a name like bubbles_123. Not only is it unprofessional and sounds
kind of spammy, but based on the name it doesn’t explain what your
Instagram is about. My username for all my socials is boutkhang.
Not only is that my name but when others read it, it can also be read as
bout Khang, as in about Khang, which can conclude that my Instagram
will be about me and my life.
4. Figuring out your audience
Just like starting a business, you’ll want to figure out what your target
audience is. This step isn’t really mandatory but it helps decided what
you should be posting and it could help decide what your niche will
be, if you don’t already know.
There are many other steps you can take to become an Instagram Influencer, but these are the ones I find most important. Look forward to my upcoming posts on gaining organic followers, keeping your followers engaged on Instagram and more.
